Sewing

Slow Fashion

questionably fashionable, but always very slow

Welcome to this page of things I have sewn. I learned to sew by hand through trial and error as a child and angsty teen. Recently I’ve gotten over my fear of the mysterious sewing machine, which has rocket-powered production. I use repurposed fabric only (!) from old or thrifted clothes, from The Resource Depot here in South Florida, or from Fab Scrap in NYC. While donating old clothes may feel good, it wrecks havoc on our society’s mindset about consumerism, the stability of economies who get flooded with our discarded, cheap clothes that couldn’t be sold at thrift stores, and our dear Earth. Let’s talk more about this later.

Romper made from old work uniform shirts. I self drafted this pattern and made it from two men’s polos. Certain garments aren’t suitable for donation when they have professional logos/ patches embroidered onto them. Perfect for up-cycling! Made of quick-dry, athletic material, this was the perfect fit for a romper made to be worn in South Florida’s heat and humidity.

All Well box top. Made from reused material from a dress’ skirt that I’ve held on to for many years. I had the pleasure of being a pattern tester for this pattern and it was a delight to make.

Pouches made from a pair of thrifted pants. One large with a zipper, and one small with a snap.
